HI Group Sport and Travel Division have welcomed many European football and UK teams into Spain, Portugal and Tenerife as well as to our other fantastic destinations for warm weather training camps. This year was not as straight forward as previous years as during World Cup years the breaks for European teams can be shorter, and the UK teams also have fewer opportunities to get away on a break.  With the heavy rain across Europe our skills, preparation and flexibility were put to the test, but we believe, from the feedback received, we did more than anyone to avoid any potential problems!

Aberdeen AFCFirst to arrive was Aberdeen AFC U19’s squad. The SPL team returned to the Costa del Sol for the second year running, this time using the Antequera Golf Hotel after using Sol Andalusi last year. This proved to be the best decision of all as the team lost no training time due to the excellent pitch at Antequera. We arranged a superb 14 day break with the team playing Sevilla, Malaga, Granada and Marbelli U19’s. Congratulations to the coaching staff run by Neil Cooper, who placed some of the youngsters into first team action following their return to Scotland.

FC GroningenFC Groningen from Holland, travelled with us for the first time and chose the Algarve, staying at the beautiful Hotel Penina near Portimao. The team also brought along a large contingent of sponsors who we looked after alongside the team. Again the trip went brilliantly as the pitch at Penina played really well, although we were happy in the knowledge that we also had back up at the new Ammendoira resort where we used the excellent pitch to host many of the games and training sessions. Groningen has vowed to return next season and have already looked to return this summer!

Finland National teamThe next team we had in Marbella was the Finland National team who arrived and left with beautiful sunshine! The team were here for an International friendly we had organised with the South Korean FA as part of their World Cup preparation. The team had a lovely stay in the Atalaya Park Hotel with Head Coach Stuart Baxter.

Hull CityHull City AFC travelled with us for the 6th time in as many years, and for this trip they chose the new T3 RESORT in Tenerife, with beautiful weather and fantastic hotel an enjoyable 4 day break was had by all. See our website for further details of this great resort - click here

Southampton FCSouthampton FC travelled with us for the first time and had a brilliant few days in the Oliva Nova resort near Alicante. Alan Pardew returned with us yet again and got lucky as the weather was very good in Alicante even though it seemed to be bad everywhere else. This trip was arranged at very short notice, just 2 days in fact, due to a cancellation of a fixture because of heavy snow in the UK, again demonstrating our flexibility and good knowledge of course!!

Burnley FCBurnley FC chose to travel to Faro in Portugal again for a superb MID season training camp. This camp was put together specifically to cater for Brian Laws requests. We had 3 days of mixed weather but again we worked hard on making sure the weather didn’t beat us, the trip finished with an excellent game with Dynamo Kiev where Brian was able to take a good look at his fringe players up against top notch opposition, the team stayed at Barringtons Resort in Val de Lobo.

As well as HJK Helsinki and Randers also staying with us, we also arranged many other friendly games as part of our service. Below is a list of some of the games we arranged this winter:

Sevilla v Aberdeen (1 - 0)
Malaga v Aberdeen ( 0 – 4)
